The Monuments and Memorials

Everything about our trip was wonderful! I would highly recommend Worldstrides to anyone interested in taking a group of kids to DC. We were well taken care of by representatives at the airport, our hotels, and restaurant stops. We had the same bus driver (and fabulous coach bus) the entire time who shuffled us around DC, Williamsburg, Virginia, Maryland and Alexandria. Our tour guide, Heidi, was a wealth of information and shared stories, facts and trivia wherever we went. We shared the tour with a group from California and a group from Texas. All together there were 28 of us and everyone got along beautifully. Here is Cameron and I sitting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. We were surprised by the enormity of it. It was so much larger than we expected, quite impressive! From the Lincoln Memorial we had a beautiful view of the Washington Monument and the Reflecting Pool. "We couldn't help but think of Forest Gump". Cameron started capturing photos on his cell phone, which were actually better than some of mine on my camera. The Korean War Memorial was amazing. The faces of real soldiers were etched into the stone. I was looking forward to the Vietnam Memorial and it was even better than I imagined. I love the photo of Cameron reading the names - notice his reflection in the stone. We got to see Iwo Jima very quickly as the sun was going down. It made for a nice silhouette. Other highlights were the World War II Memorial, the White House, FDR Memorial, and Thomas Jefferson Memorial. Cameron truly enjoyed going into the Capital. I did take a quick video clip of the World War II Memorials. It was too massive to capture in a picture.
