The Key

This year, Cameron has a new distance coach for his Central Valley Road Runners Track Team. He asked Rick and Cameron to come out to his house for some extra one-on-one training with Cameron. The Coach said he sees something really special in Cameron and wants to spend some extra time with him. He worked Cameron's BUTT off and pushed Cam much harder than usual.

Then, he gave Cam a blank key. He told Cam, "This is the key to your future. Right now is will not open any doors for you. You have to put in the work and create the groves for what you want in life. It may be sports, school, career, spiritual, etc. You decide. You decide your future and you make it happen. You carve the groves for whatever doors you want to open for you in your future."

Cam is so proud of the key. He truly took it to heart. He brought it home, scrambled to find a chain, and is now wearing it around his neck. He also took a picture of it and made it the home screen on his phone.

Especially cool, because Cam had a hard time adjusting to this new coach. He was so comfortable with Coach Jeff and didn't feel this coach was giving him the time of day in the beginning. It means more when you have to earn someone's respect.

I believe this Coach will be someone Cameron will always remember, someone who will make a lasting impact on him. It's so wonderful to see someone take an interest in your child and take the time to provide him with a valuable life lesson.
