What was Great in '08?

I have been pondering over my New Years Resolutions since New Years Eve. But, before I can really look forward, I feel the need to reflect back. 2008 had its struggles, mostly for Cameron - medically, but it truly had its highlights as well. I would not want this one issue to overshadow what was actually a good year for our little Crippen Family. Looking back...

Personally, I may not have succeeded with my '08 New Years Resolutions. (No I cannot solve a rubix cube in under 2 minutes - but I can get close!) But, I did have some significant successes along the way...

1. I ran my first race! I, who claimed to not be able to run, have made running a part of my life this year. I am not running as much as I'd like, but the fact that I am running is a little shy of a miracle. Running a 5K doesn't seem like such a far fetched idea anymore.

2. I cut WAY back on the EXTRA commitments in my life. I made some priorities very clear to myself and learned to say "no" to things that did not meet the priority list. I am not presenting inservices or teaching workshops the way I was in previous years. I am not teaching any writing courses or professional development seminars other than my summer program. I pulled back and stopped overextending myself, allowing myself to be "present" to those most important to me; my children, husband, family, friends and students. (This was HUGE!)

3. I spent quality time with family and friends. Sounds so simple, but, is there anything I could possibly treasure more?

Here are some highlights from what truly was a good year...

Spending a weekend in Vegas with Rick to celebrate our 16th anniversary! We won big hitting our lucky number several times!

A weekend in Reno with Mom, Dad, Fosters, Lyons and all the kids! "Love ya long time!"

Took Cameron and a group of 8th graders to DC! WOW! What an amazing trip it was!

Cameron got the opportunity to run in the Jr. Olympics in Nebraska!

Trip to Yosemite with Uncle Robb and Aunt Tanya!

Watched Rick celebrate his 40th in true Rick style!

Camping trips to Pinecrest, Sea Cliff and even Livermore!

I finally took part in the ravioli making tradition! The boys did too!

How can we not refer back to 2008 as a great year? Much was GREAT in '08!

Love your 08 reflections, and I'm all about reflecting! A lot happened this year that opened my eyes to things I haven't thought about in the past. With MaryAnn, Matts anniversary, and of course everything with Cameron, and your right it was still a great year despite these things. You do a good job at finding the blessings in the most difficult times.
